"This cause is close to my heart: I lost both sets of grandparents to cancer in England, and I've seen friends locally in State College suffering through cancer treatment. My life has been strongly shaped by cancer and I've had enough. Through my foundation I aim to raise money for families receiving cancer treatment in the Centre Region.
I have taken part in several cancer fund raising events to raise essential investment for for lifesaving cancer research. However, the financial assistance to keep families afloat who are fighting all forms of cancer, is often overlooked. With the help or professional riders and friends within and outside the sports industry, I have started an annual bike ride to raise money for this important cause. The first event - Bike for Life on October 22, 2011 - includes numerous activities in and around the Tussey Mountain Family Fun Center.
Cycling is a fun and great way to stay and be healthy- and I need as many
people as possible to get involved and enter my first event. You will be
a part of a very rewarding experience, and will have fun participating. Together
we can all do our part to ensure that local families suffering from this
terrible disease are not forced to choose between their bills and care for
their loved ones. We need to provide support, emotionally and financially,
and show these families that they are not in it alone." -Jamie Bestwick
